Exodus 20:4-5

4 a“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. 5 bYou shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am ca jealous God, dvisiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me,

Exodus 34:12-17

12 eTake care, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you go, lest it become a fsnare in your midst. 13You shall gtear down their altars and hbreak their pillars and cut down their iAsherim 14(for jyou shall worship no other god, for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God), 15 klest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and when they lwhore after their gods and sacrifice to their gods and myou are invited, you eat of his sacrifice, 16and you take of ntheir daughters for your sons, and their daughters owhore after their gods and make your sons whore after their gods.

Deuteronomy 4:23-27

23 qTake care, lest you forget the covenant of the Lord your God, which he made with you, and rmake a carved image, the form of anything that the Lord your God has forbidden you. 24For sthe Lord your God is a consuming fire, ta jealous God.

25When you father children and children’s children, and have grown old in the land, uif you act corruptly by making a carved image in the form of anything, and vby doing what is evil in the sight of the Lord your God, so as to provoke him to anger, 26I wcall heaven and earth to witness against you today, that you will soon utterly perish from the land that you are going over the Jordan to possess. You will not live long in it, but will be utterly destroyed. 27And the Lord xwill scatter you among the peoples, yand you will be left few in number among the nations where the Lord will drive you.

Deuteronomy 13

1If a prophet or za dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, 2and aathe sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ 3you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God abis testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. 4You shall acwalk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and adhold fast to him. 5But aethat prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has taught rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of slavery, to make you leave the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. afSo you shall purge the evil

6 ahIf your brother, the son of your mother, or your son or your daughter or aithe wife you embrace
Hebrew  the wife of your bosom
or your friend akwho is as your own soul entices you secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ alwhich neither you nor your fathers have known,
7some amof the gods of the peoples who are around you, whether near you or far off from you, from the one end of the earth to the other, 8you shall annot yield to him or listen to him, nor aoshall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him, nor shall you conceal him. 9But you shall kill him. apYour hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. 10 aqYou shall stone him to death with stones, because he sought to draw you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 11And arall Israel shall hear and fear and never again do any such wickedness as this among you.

12If you hear in one of your cities, which the Lord your God is giving you to dwell there, 13that certain asworthless fellows have gone out among you and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ which you have not known, 14then you shall inquire and make search and ask atdiligently. And behold, if it be true and certain that such an abomination has been done among you, 15you shall surely put the inhabitants of that city to the sword, devoting it to destruction,
That is, setting apart ( devoting) as an offering to the Lord (for destruction)
all who are in it and its cattle, with the edge of the sword.
16You shall gather all its spoil into the midst of its open square and avburn the city and all its spoil with fire, as a whole burnt offering to the Lord your God. It shall be a awheap forever. It shall not be built again. 17 axNone of the devoted things shall stick to your hand, aythat the Lord may turn from the fierceness of his anger and show you mercy and have compassion on you and multiply you, azas he swore to your fathers, 18if you obey the voice of the Lord your God, bakeeping all his commandments that I am commanding you today, and doing what is right in the sight of the Lord your God.

Joshua 23:7

7 bbthat you may not mix with these nations remaining among you bcor make mention of the names of their gods bdor swear by them or serve them or bow down to them,

Joshua 23:16

16if you transgress the covenant of the Lord your God, which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them. Then the anger of the Lord will be kindled against you, and you shall perish quickly from off the good land that he has given to you.”
